The author was American surrealist, Steve Erickson, and the book was a love letter to cinema entitled Zeroville.

Said scheme involved pretensions to journalism and pretty much launched my dubious career as an internet writer. It was a little over four years ago that I hatched a scheme to score myself an ARC of the latest novel from one of my favorite authors. I think she's trying to let us know that when you dream, it's like a completely different world. This marks an anniversary of sorts for me. I don't think Nancy Wilson is trying to further people's understandings of her own dreams, but she's trying to describe dreams in general. 'What am I wearing? What am I doing? Where am I? What's the setting like? What can I do or what am I capable of doing?' The answer is anything because it's a dream. "Is it cloak and dagger, could it be spring or fall? I walk without a cut through a stained glass wall." This line describes how your mind creates a dream. Everyone's had that dream that's so amazing, but then you wake up and it's gone. You want that dream to go on forever because it's so good. The timeline in your dreams can go for decades when, in reality, you've only been sleeping or day dreaming for a few hours. To me, "I search for the time on a watch with no hands", means dreams are timeless. You can be anyone, do anything, and your mind can edit anything because dreams aren't real. She probably doesn't even know what they truly mean herself. Basically, Nancy is trying to interpret her dreams. These two lines are the best lines/metaphors in this entire song, and they pretty much explain the whole song. I walk without a cut through a stained glass wall" "Is it cloak and dagger, could it be spring or fall? Great thing about this song is you can interpreted, and conform it into your on thought, and imagination. ( This is were she finally tells us that it is a prince, and that his kiss is like freedom, and that he is the one in the first verse who was hiding his face,That she couldn't see in the mist.)Įvery moment I'm awake, the further I'm away (repeat)Įvery moment I'm awake, the further I'm away (repeat)Īnd that's my interpretation it's a great story, mixed with great emotion, and thought.
WITH EVERY MOMENT IM AWAY FULL
In a wood full of princes freedom is a kissīut the prince hides his face from dreams in the mist (Of course your feet never touch the earth, because your dreaming. It's funny how your feet in dreams never touch the earth ( Out of all the songs she's ever heard silence is the best.)

The sweetest song is silence that I've ever heard ( She knows there's something out there, someone out there, she can't see it,and she's scared of it so she feels the need to run from it. She may not know what to speak,so she's stumbling over her words )Įvery moment I'm awake, the further I'm away ( REpeat) ( She could be so scared ,it's dark she has a candle. Weaker in my eyesight, the candle in my grip ( In a dream it is what you make it,you can change the weather or walk through things without getting hurt. I walk without a cut through a stained glass wall Is it cloak and dagger, could it be spring or fall Every moment she's awake in the real world the further away from her other dream life she is.) ( So those are the dreams she dream every nite,it's as if she lives another life. ( Self explanatory) - See can't see him as he is ,until the 2nd verse where she finally tell us he's a prince.Įvery second of the night, I live another lifeĮvery moment I'm awake, the further I'm away ( This could mean that she's looking for more time, that she can't never seem to find ,since she's dreaming there could be lots of delusion ) ( She's telling a story here, and setting the foundation ) (Also this is what she was dressed in.She could be playing the part of a princess in her dream that needs to be saved by a prince who she can only kinda see in her dreams, and there are shadows ,and things keeping her from being free). ( In dreams commonly there are things that chase us, also she could be setting a feel for the song, place, and time she's in). ( They are in mid evil times ,because there using candles) In this song she took the fairytale approach ,and added somewhat of a mystery (but lots of this is self explanatory).Let's look at the following : My InterpretationFirst off I believe that the over all background of the song is about things we dream of in dreams rather weird, fantasy,or fairytale. These dreams that sleep when it's cold outsideĮvery moment I'm awake the further I'm away Every second of the night I live another life
